NAPLES, FLA. – DuPont Professional Products continued to raise its market profile – as well as its investment in the pest control industry – by hosting an Advion® brand products Launch Symposium at the Ritz-Carlton Golf Resort in Naples, Fla.
The three-day symposium, which kicked off with a reception and group dinner on Tuesday evening, features an array of prominent speakers including well-known university researchers, DuPont product development specialists, and leading pest management professionals.
“What we hope to accomplish at the meeting is to introduce everybody to the benefits of indoxacarb, the ground-breaking active ingredient used in the Advion family of products, as well as exhibit our growing commitment to the pest control market,” said Mike McDermott, global business leader, DuPont Professional Products, Wilmington, Del. “We’re also very proud of the fact that indoxacarb received ‘reduced risk’ status from EPA, another important benefit of this technology.”
DuPont recently expanded its Advion product line to include Advion cockroach gel bait. “In the battle against cockroaches, a single product that gives you fast and broad-spectrum control means everything – less money devoted to inventory management and less time spent on callbacks from customers,” said Dr. Clay Scherer, global product development, DuPont Professional Products. “Advion gives you performance and peace of mind.”
The novel mode of action featured in indoxacarb was developed by DuPont researchers to target the insect’s nervous system. After ingesting the product, the cockroach’s own internal enzymes change the molecular structure and attributes of indoxacarb into the more potent MetaActiveTM compound, resulting in paralysis, followed by death. Beyond the initial impact, Advion cockroach gel bait provides powerful exponential control of cockroach infestations through secondary kill for complete pest elimination, according to DuPont.
Wednesday’s educational sessions will feature an array of distinguished speakers including Dr. Dini Miller of Virginia Tech University; Dr. Phil Koehler of the University of Florida; Dr. Clay Scherer of DuPont Professional Products; and Dr. Phil Nichols, technical director, Middleton Lawn & Pest Control, Orlando, Fla.
The Advion brand products Launch Symposium is the second of two meetings held this week in Florida for PCOs from throughout the United States.

MetaActive™ – A Unique Mode of Action
Advion cockroach gel bait utilizes a unique mode of action to control all major cockroach species – metabolic activation, a term DuPont has shortened to MetaActiveTM. Metabolic activation is the process by which an insect’s own internal enzymes change the molecular structure and attributes of indoxacarb, the active ingredient featured in the Advion family of products. During this process, insects cleave off the carbomethoxy group from indoxacarb, according to Dr. Chuck Silcox, development manager, DuPont Professional Products, converting it into MetaActive. Normally, molecular degradation reduces the efficacy of insecticides. The opposite is true with indoxacarb; the metabolic activation process actually increases its effectiveness. The MetaActive compound is the more powerful form which attacks the insect’s nervous system resulting in paralysis, followed by death.
