VIRGINIA BEACH, VA. – Hopefully, Virginia Beach tourists won’t have to worry about sharing their oceanfront hotel rooms with bed bugs when they visit this summer.
In 2010, the Virginia Beach Health Department received 60 bed bug complaints from city hotels. But Erin Sutton, environmental health manager with the health department, is hopeful that this year will record fewer bed bug complaints.
“We definitely had an increase in bed bug complaints over the summer,” Sutton said. But, she added, the city health department has also been providing training to city hotels on how to inspect for bed bugs and get rid of the insects if they are found.
