NPMA Legislative Day 2021: PCOs, Lawmakers to Meet Virtually
In the wake of NPMA announcing it had moved Legislative Day to a virtual event, PCT caught up with NPMA Vice President of Public Policy Ashley Amidon to learn how Legislative Day attendees will connect with their legislators virtually, and to discuss the importance of educating the new Congress, many of whom are newly elected and may have misperceptions about the pest control industry.
Many pest control companies have added tick control to their suite of service offerings. It’s become particularly popular in the Northeast, which is why PCT was fascinated to read a new analysis suggesting that north-south differences in ticks' host choice, density, and host-seeking behaviors may explain why Lyme disease is more prevalent in the northeastern U.S. than in the southeast.
As part of Court Parker's cross-country RV tour, he stopped in Austin, Texas, and caught up with Bobby Jenkins, president of ABC Home & Commercial Services. The PCT staff was interested to hear how ABC is using technology to keep employees and customers engaged during the COVID-19 pandemic.
PCT always enjoys finding out which cities are moving (up or down) on Orkin’s Top 50 Bed Bug Cities List. The list is based on treatment data from the metro areas where Orkin performed the most bed bug treatments from December 1, 2019 – November 30, 2020.
PCT was saddened to hear of the tragic loss of Bradly Jordan, a technician with Lawrenceville Pest Control, was murdered on Jan. 28 while serving a Gwinnett County Apartment complex. The Georgia Pest Control Association has set up a web page to collect donations for Jordan’s family https://gpca.org/bradly-jordan/ and we have been heartened to see the outpouring of donations from members of the pest control industry.
