CLEVELAND – PCT and the Urban Pest Management Technical Committee (UPMTC) are thrilled to announce the launch of the “Beyond the Pest” podcast.
Join UPMTC members who will inspire and inform with stories about their pest control experiences and career paths, including how they obtained technical roles with pest management companies.
“The goal is to reach people who may not have initially considered this industry — such as students leaning toward academia or other career tracks — and introduce them to an alternative, rewarding option,” said UPMTC member Christian Wilcox, technical director, McCauley Services, Benton, Ark. Wilcox was the brainchild behind the “Beyond the Pest” podcast.
Discussions will be led by hosts and UPMTC members Mike Thome, technical services manager, Rentokil, and Jennifer Sweeney-Ingram, technical director of All-American Pest Control, Nashville, Tenn.
Episodes aim to:
• Highlight multiple entry points into technical roles, whether through fieldwork, academic backgrounds, or other routes.
• Show that career advancement is possible beyond technician roles, especially in operations and technical leadership.
• Emphasize the importance of resources like PCT magazine in helping professionals grow and self-educate.
For next month’s inaugural episode, hosts Sweeney-Ingram and Thome interview UPMTC member Jay Everitt, longtime technical director of Rottler Pest Solutions, St. Louis.
And look for future podcasts featuring other UPMTC members, many of whom contribute to “IPM Insights” the bi-monthly PCT column authored by UPMTC members.
The “Beyond the Pest” podcast can be downloaded from PCT’s website, PCT’s Apple Podcast channel and from UPMTC’s YouTube channel.
