The Pennsylvania Pest Management Association’s Annual State Conference featured Dr. Neal Haskell, a professor at St. Joseph’s College, who is both a consultant to the TV program CSI as well as a consulting forensic entomologist for several police departments. Haskell gave a two hour presentation at the conference titled “Foresenic Entomology: CSI for Beginners.”
The annual meeting, held earlier this month in Lancaster, Pa., was dedicated to retired extension entomologist Dr. Stanley Green, of Penn State University, who has dedicated decades to furthering the professionalism of the pest management industry.

The program chairman, Ed Van Istendal of Tomlinson Bomberger Pest Control, along with Robert Jones Jr. of Jones Termite & Pest Control and David M. Hyres of David M. Hyres Pest Control, put together a well-rounded program that covered bed bugs, wildlife control, fly control, termites and wood-boring beetles.
Some of the featured speakers were Dr. Dini Miller, from Virginia Tech, Frank Meek, B.C.E., of Orkin, Dr. Susan Jones of Ohio State University and Dr. Richard Kramer. A special breakout session, “Pest Management in Hospitals and Sensitive Environments,” led by Jeff Tucker, B.C.E., and sponsored by Whitemire Micro-Gen, was held on-site at Lancaster College of Nursing.
