Wilson has provided an important industry voice to regulatory issues on the national level and in his home state of Virginia, where he recently was re-appointed to his fifth 4-year term on the Virginia Pesticide Control Board (PCB). Wilson is the senior member on the PCB, having been appointed to the newly formed regulatory board in 1988. In accepting the award, Wilson said he never has missed a Virginia PCB meeting for fear that detrimental decisions to the structural pest control industry might take place during his absence.
Wilson also praised NPMA and member companies for actively participating in Legislative Day during the past 19 years, noting that this lobbying effort is “light years ahead” of similar efforts from associations most people would regard as more bigger and more prominent.
In addition to reflecting on the past, Wilson encouraged Legislative Day attendees to continue present-day lobbying efforts and cited the need to pass H.R. 525 and S. 406, the Small Business Health Fairness Act. Wilson said the health care crisis is real and it is going to worsen in the next 10 years if changes are not made. He said his health care premium increased by 43 percent last year.
