Fetching a cool $2,000, the auction took place at the recent Florida Pest Management Association’s (FPMA) Convention and Exposition at the Marco Island Marriott Resort and Spa in Marco Island, Fla.
Elbert, who is the Residex Northern Florida District Manager, agreed to auction off the ponytail he sported for the past several years to benefit two charitable causes. The hair and $1,000 will go to Locks of Love. The rest of the proceeds will go to the new FPMA Disaster Relief Fund established by recently-elected FPMA president, David M. (Mickey) Nolen.
Locks of Love, a Lake Worth, Fla.-based non-profit organization provides hairpieces to financially disadvantaged children under age 18 suffering from long-term medical hair loss from any diagnosis.
The FPMA Disaster Relief Fund will be a resource to help members hit by calamity. Additional activities at the June 25-27 convention included a full program of education and CEU sessions, one of the largest pest control trade shows in the country, a golf tournament, spouse and children’s programs and a Casino Night.
