WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. — At Pi Chi Omega’s membership dinner on Tuesday, the fraternity announced it is raising funds to establish a perpetual scholarship in the name of Alain VanRyckeghem, the longtime technical director of Insects Limited.
VanRyckeghem passed away on Nov. 28, 2017, at age 55, after a nine-month battle with brain cancer. He was a world-class stored product entomologist and pheromone chemist.
VanRyckeghem also was a respected educator, who worked as a professor in Canada prior to joining Insects Limited. As David Mueller, president of Insects Limited and founder of Fumigation Service & Supply, wrote in a tribute letter to VanRyckeghem:
“I personally met Alain in Toronto, Canada when he brought his Sir Sandford Fleming College class to a pest control conference in 1984. His students admired Professor Alain. As their instructor they learned many skills that someday would provide them a livelihood with quality companies throughout Canada. This college course was an example of how our industry can train and educate students to step into a field of professional pest management.”
Insects Limited announced it will match each dollar donated with two dollars.
