Editor’s note: The Professional Pest Management Alliance released the following announcement updating members and the industry about recent programs and media coverage that PPMA has generated.
With new programs being launched, educational seminars being supported and consistent media outreach, PPMA is poised for a strong autumn, with good news and great resources to share with the industry. Take a quick look at the results from NPMA's Bed Bug Symposiums, which demonstrate this point perfectly.
Held in Newark, N.J., on Aug. 25 and Seattle, Wash. on Aug. 27, these conferences encouraged in-depth conversations between experts, government representatives, regulatory officials as well as hoteliers, multi-family housing executives and property/facility managers about the critical issues stemming from the resurgence of this elusive pest.
While While successful in achieving this goal of increased conversation - with over 150 engaged attendees at each event - the symposiums also led to strong media coverage, especially in the Pacific Northwest. The industry was highlighted in a front-page feature story in The Seattle Times and a lengthy report on KOMO-TV, which was subsequently aired on multiple ABC affiliates, notably in Kansas City and Cleveland.
The Seattle Times feature article by Mark Rahner has also been picked up in multiple newspapers during the past 10 days through McClatchy Newspapers' syndication service. This article has appeared in just the first week of September in the following publications: South Florida Sun-Sentinel, The Bismarck Tribune, Ventura County Star and The Spokesman Review.
More, the symposiums compelled national media coverage, as Greg Baumann, NPMA's Vice President of Technical Services, was interviewed on CNBC's "Street Signs." The three-minute segment not only focused upon the vigilance needed to prevent these pests, but also included statistics and b-roll provided to CNBC through PPMA's media relations efforts.
