NPMA Recommends “Buggy” Summer Activities

FAIRFAX, Va. — The Professional Pest Management Alliance (PPMA) has been busy promoting the pest control industry to the consumer. PPMA Executive Director Cindy Mannes reports that from January through April PPMA has been able to generate over 270 million consumer impressions and over $3.6 million in ad values. Here’s a look at some recent PPMA activities.

Public Service Announcement Campaign. This includes PPMA's Public Service Announcement Campaign, both radio and TV running across the country. This year PPMA has added a Spanish radio version as well. The overall PSA campaign has already delivered over $500,000 in ad values.

TV, Radio, On-line and Print.  From the Wall St. Journal to the Los Angeles Times to Men’s Health magazine; from the “Today Show” to PPMA's ongoing segment on “The Money Pit” – PPMA has proactively been involved with stories on bedbugs, termites, summer pests, rodents, just to name a few. (See chart at right for recent press releases).

National Radio and TV Buy. PPMA's national radio buy is just about completed but its national cable TV buy is still running. To view the schedules and listen to the radio spots as well as view the TV spots visit www.pestworld.org

Grassroots PR. Local media stories have been running on a variety of topics – stories like “Our insect enemies (bedbugs)”, “Tips to Help Outsmart the Terrible Termite”, “ Put a Bite on Mosquitoes and Take Back your Yard” and “ How Homeowners Can defeat Ant Invaders” just to name a few. And again, several of these stories are running in Spanish newspaper around the country. All of these stories ultimately advise consumers to contact a professional.

New Consumer Information Brochure. PPMA has sold thousands of its new consumer brochures “Putting Pests in Perspective”. To view or to order at the special PPMA contributor price visit www.pestworld.org and click on the Bug Store.

Commercial Articles. PPMA has been working hard in the commercial area as well – stories in trade publications like Maintenance Solutions on bird control; Food Safety Magazine and Stride magazine (a healthcare publication in Canada).

Web Presence. PPMA's new consumer and media Web site as well as Pestworldforkids.org continue to grow in market presence. When you type in “pest control” in your search area, PPMA now appears in the #4 spot on Google and #1 on Yahoo.  PPMA also just launched a new game “Archibald the Ant” on www.pestworldforkids.org.
