MARIN COUNTY, Calif. — Carlos Blandino, owner of North Point Pest Solutions, Marin County, Calif., and a former professional baseball player, won the May PCT Book Giveaway. Blandino played professionally in Central America for the San Fernando Giants (Masaya, Nicaragua).

Blandino had entered last month’s giveaway at www.pctonline.com and he was randomly chosen as the winner. Courtesy of PCT, Blandino will receive “Duct Tape Marketing”; “Citizen Marketers”; “Guerilla Marketing”; and “Who Moved My Cheese”. These four books were recommended by PCT Columnist Cindy Mannes in her May PCT column [Mannes on Marketing] What’s on Your Summer Reading List?

The books will help fill the shelves at Blandino’s office, which has only been in existence for one year. In April 2008, Blandino founded North Point Pest Solutions, which offers general pest control. “I felt like I needed more of a challenge,” he said. “I wanted to work independently and be able to take care of scheduling so that I could be able to spend more time with my family.”

Blandino, who is 36, has two sons – Evan Blandino (age 14) and Josh Blandino (age 7) — both of whom share their father’s passion for baseball.

Blandino became involved in the pest control industry in 1997, not long after retiring from baseball. He first became aware of the profession while working in a warehouse and communicating with the technician who was servicing that account. “He was monitoring for rodents and setting traps and it looked like an interesting job,” he said. Soon thereafter he began working as a service technician.

Prior to his involvement in the pest control industry Blandino had considered becoming a social worker or psychologist. He graduated from San Francisco State University, majoring in sociology and minoring in kinesiology.
