ProFume Registered For Use in California

The California Department of Pesticide Regulations has accepted the registration of Dow AgroSciences’ ProFume gas fumigant.

INDIANAPOLIS – The California Department of Pesticide Regulations (DPR) has accepted the registration of Dow AgroSciences’ ProFume gas fumigant for postharvest control of insect and rodent pests infesting cereal grains, dried fruit and tree nuts in mills, processing plants and storage facilities for these commodities.

“In light of the methyl bromide phase out, many California millers and processors have been anxiously awaiting this registration,” says Drew Ratterman, sales and marketing specialist, Dow AgroSciences. “They are excited to start using ProFume to optimize their operations.”

In 2002, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) awarded Dow AgroSciences the Stratospheric Ozone Protection Award for its development of ProFume gas fumigant. This award honors companies and individuals demonstrating a commitment to ozone protection.

Beyond providing stored product pest control, ProFume also offers millers, processors and applicators flexibility through the use of Precision Fumigation™ tools and techniques. By creating a unique fumigation blueprint for each job, it is possible to customize the fumigation process to alleviate some of the downtime issues traditionally associated with fumigation.

In addition to a United States federal registration, ProFume® gas fumigant is registered for use in 48 states including California, as well as the District of Columbia. It is also registered in countries such as Germany, the United Kingdom, Switzerland and Italy, and has become widely available to the industry as methyl bromide is phased out.
