CAVE CREEK, Ariz. — Pure Desert Organic Pest Controls was named the 2025 Small Business of the Year by the Carefree Cave Creek Chamber of Commerce.
The business, which services the Cave Creek, Ariz., area, uses only natural and 25(b) exempt pesticides. Pure Desert Owner Mitch Love said the business started in October 2024, with around 95 percent of the business’s current customers being residential.
Through a nomination and voting process led by the chamber of commerce, Pure Desert Organic Pest Control was named the 2025 Small Business of the Year.
“I was a little bit shocked, really, that the communities noticed the impact that we've made, with a lot of people as quickly as we did,” Love said. “It's just really cool to get noticed for something that you've been doing for such a short time. I think that says a lot to our forthcoming growth as well.”
Currently, Love is the sole operator at Pure Desert, but he plans to hire his first employee in the coming months to prepare for the summer months. Love said being named by the chamber is recognition that he and his business are providing good services, while treating customers like neighbors.
“They love the fact that we are 100 percent natural,” Love said. “[We’re] not putting out [pesticides] around their dogs and kids. The product we use works.”
Love also attributes the recognition to his involvement with the community and his customers, which has led to Pure Desert’s name being passed by word of mouth throughout the Cave Creek and Carefree communities.
“Cave Creek, Carefree and the area around; it's a real tight-knit community and growing like crazy,” Love said. “But people still like to use local companies. If you just treat your customer right and offer a good product and you know in my case, a safe product, people get behind that pretty quick.”
