ORLANDO - The room-filling group at the Professional Women in Pest Management (PWIPM) breakfast on Thursday speaks to the significant growth of women in the industry since its founding in 1988 as Association for Women in Pest Services.
The growth was particularly cited by breakfast-sponsor ServicePro COO Andy Deering, who noted that there were fewer than 10 people at the first one he attended.
In addition to general networking at the breakfast, PWIPM’s Professional Empowerment Grants were awarded. The 2018 winners of the $1,000 award were:
• Rachel Alexander, a multi-residential exterminator with Citron Hygiene in Ontario, Canada. Alexander specializes in bed bug management and will use her award to achieve her ACE certification and promote PWIPM in Canada.
• Teresa Brannon is a supervisor and commercial consultant for Cook’s Pest Control in Alabama. She will use her award to attend a course to enhance public speaking.
