AKRON, Ohio - An adventurous raccoon caused nearly 12,000 FirstEnergy Corp. customers in East Akron to be without power this morning, according to a report in the Akron Beacon Journal.
``It got into a substation in Ellet and caused damage,'' FirstEnergy spokesperson Ellen Raines said.
Raines said FirstEnergy was able to get most of the affected customers back on by switching to other circuits, but the overload, coupled with the summer heat, caused another outage this afternoon that left nearly 8,000 without power.
FirstEnergy crews were working on the problem.
