The Rat Blocker works by simultaneously blocking off sewage pipe access, while allowing no disruption to, or reduction in, the flow of waste in the opposite direction. The Rat Blocker fits snugly into the pipe and locks into place. Inside is a double steel flap which will open when pressure from the flow of waste builds up, allowing the waste to pass freely down into the sewer. However, pressure applied to the other side of the flap closes it and creates a barrier. Any attempt to lift open the flap from this side will activate a simple locking device, making it impossible for a rat to gain entry.
Installation of the Rat Blocker is simple: A custom, extendable handle enables the Rat Blocker to be lowered through an open manhole where it can be easily manoeuvred into place. Once a feeling of resistance against the sides of the pipe is encountered, the installation handle can be turned clockwise, to tighten and lock the Rat Blocker securely in place. The handle is then easily detached and installation is complete.
