Residex Partners with the Charity Achilles Freedom

The Achilles Freedom Team of Wounded Veterans was founded in 2004 for veterans disabled in the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Residex announced that it has partnered with the charity Achilles Freedom. Chris Donaghy, Residex President, chose Achilles based on his patriotism and love for our country, respect for our armed forces and passion for running.

What is Achilles?
The Achilles FREEDOM TEAM of Wounded Veterans was founded in 2004 for veterans disabled in the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, however, all wounded veterans are welcome.  More than 360 vets have been introduced to marathon racing as part of their rehabilitation. Starting at Walter Reed Army Medical Center, the program now includes Balboa Naval Hospital, Brooke Army Medical Center and Camp Lejeune in North Carolina.  Members set goals, train in a handcrank wheelchair or “on foot,” and compete as part of a team in road races and marathons around the country and internationally.  Races planned for 2009 include marathons in Washington, DC, New York, Boston, and Palm Beaches.  Achilles covers the expenses for family members of the veterans to travel with the team so that they may share in their athlete’s accomplishment.  Team members report a renewed sense of confidence, achievement, and optimism for the future and experience the many health benefits of regular physical activity.

Residex Gives Back
In January 2009, Residex donated $3,500 to furnish a hand crank that will be stationed at the Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington, D.C.  The company views it as a privilege to have a solider train and compete in a hand crank displaying our company logo.

Achilles NYC Signature Event
The Hope and Possibility 5 Mile Run/Walk is scheduled for Sunday, June 28th 2009 at Central Park in New York City which welcomes able-bodied and disabled athletes to compete together.  The event is named after Achilles Founding Board Chair, Trisha Meili, author of the best-selling memoir, I Am the Central Park Jogger: A Story of Hope and Possibility.

Residex Goals
Residex’s goal for 2009 is to donate a total of $10,000 to the Achilles Freedom Team.  With the $3,500 hand crank donation Residex has already made we have just $6,500 left to go.  We hope that even during these difficult economic times our generous industry will help us achieve our goal in supporting this worthwhile cause.
