TRAVERSE CITY, Mich — Critter Control’s Kevin Clark spearheaded efforts to have salmon caught during the Grand Traverse Salmon Classic transported to Texas to aid Katrina evacuees.
Clark, who also serves as director of the Grand Traverse Salmon Classic, oversaw the record 7,484 pounds of salmon that were weighed in at the Holiday Inn in Traverse City, Mich., over Labor Day weekend.
With all that fish, the tournament supplied fresh salmon to not only local charities, but for Hurricane Katrina evacuees as well. Twenty wax fish boxes were loaded w/ 60-70 pounds of salmon each, and Clark contacted Grand Traverse Trucking, which made arrangements to refrigerate and ship the approximately 1300 pounds of salmon filets to Texas for distribution.
