Sebelius Sworn In as HHS Secretary

Kathleen Sebelius took the oath to become the new U.S. Health and Human Services Secretary. Senators voted 65-31 to confirm her appointment to the post.

WASHINGTON - Calling her the right person at the right time for the job, President Barack Obama watched Kathleen Sebelius take the oath to become his new Health and Human Services Secretary Tuesday night.

Just hours earlier, Senators voted 65-31 to confirm her appointment to the post. Sebelius immediately resigned as governor in Kansas and headed to Washington to be sworn in. She drove directly from Andrews Air Force Base in Maryland to the White House, where she took her oath in the Oval Office.

President Barack Obama says the administration wanted to swear Sebelius in right away because the nation is facing "a significant public health challenge that requires her immediate attention.''
