Valera Jessee, executive director of the Georgia Pest Control Association, announced recently that Wise has won the $1,000 Bob Russell Scholarship. Wise is an entomology major working with Dr. Forschler at the University of Georgia in Athens. “I love this industry and my studies. This is the first scholarship I’ve ever won and I am very excited,” she says. “I plan to pursue my Masters and PhD in the field of entomology.”
The Bob Russell Entomology Scholarship was established in 2005 to honor long-time and dedicated leader Robert M. Russell. It was Russell’s vision in the 1980s to seek an urban entomology program at the University of Georgia. This scholarship honors his memory and serves to encourage those students who seek to pursue entomology as a course of study.
The scholarship developed as a joint effort of the Russell family and the pest control industry to honor Bob Russell. The scholarship was designed to be used for books and other research support materials by a student currently or previously enrolled in an upper level entomology course at the University of Georgia.
