INDIANAPOLIS — The Sentricon® Termite Colony Elimination System, a Dow AgroSciences technology, was recently installed around Shiga Temple, one of the Enryaku-ji sanctuaries built on the sacred mountain of Hiei in Japan.

Enryaku-ji Temple was registered by UNESCO as a World Cultural Asset in December, 1994. Enryaku-ji started its history in the 8th century as a monastery by Saicho and now consists of a number of temples and halls in the site located on Mount Hiei across Kyoto and Shiga.

Enryaku-ji Temple is also famous for being the location where a number of important Buddhists have learned Japanese Buddhism for over 1,200 years.

"We decided to use the Sentricon System because of its environmental-friendliness," explained the administrative manager of Enryaku-ji. The temple is publicly committed to one of its basic principles: "Co-existence with nature on a global basis."

The Sentricon System perfectly met their needs not to burden the surrounding environments including its groundwater which flows into beautiful Lake Biwa in Shiga. Enryaku-ji's decision to use the Sentricon System was broadly reported by Japanese media.
