MEMPHIS - J. Patrick Spainhour, chief executive officer of Memphis-based ServiceMaster, will retire from the company at the end of the year. The search for his successor has already begun.
Spainhour has served as CEO since May 2006, first on an interim basis, then permanently beginning in June 2006. During Spainhour’s tenure, the company relocated its headquarters from Downer’s Grove, Ill. to Memphis to establish stronger ties with its Memphis-based business units.
Prior to joining the ServiceMaster board of directors in 2005, Spainhour served as chairman and CEO of Ann Taylor Stores Corporation. Spainhour’s career also includes senior executive roles at Gap, Inc.; Stride Rite Corp. and Donna Karan Company.
