SPC Publishes 2005 Pest Control Market Research Analysis

The United States structural pest control industry generated an estimated $6.76 billion in 2005, according to the latest study conducted by Specialty Products Consultants.

The United States structural pest control industry generated an estimated $6.76 billion in 2005. This revenue was generated from residential and commercial pest services, along with pre- and post-construction termite treatments and annual termite contract renewal fees. This is a 4.0 percent increase over the $6.50 billion in service revenue measured in SPC’s 2004 survey. According to SPC, this represents a five-year annualized growth rate for professional pest control services of 5.3 percent.

Overall, most pest control operator’s surveyed reported good growth in 2005. Despite a comparatively weak termite swarm season, more than four of five respondents said their termite control service revenue, excluding acquisitions, increased or stayed the same in 2005 as compared to 2004. In the Southeast region, nine of ten respondents reported that their termite service revenue increased or stayed the same this past year. However, in the 14 Midwestern states, more than one-quarter of the respondents said their termite business declined in 2005.

In total, 800 owners or managers of pest control companies were personally interviewed for this study. This marks the sixth syndicated market analysis conducted by Specialty Products Consultants, LLC of the professional pest management industry.

In addition to providing a quantitative assessment of service revenue and pesticide product usage, the study measured key attributes of leading suppliers to the industry. The resurgence of pests like bed bugs, changes in pest control treatment strategies, new active ingredients, and generic product introductions are just a few of the competitive forces analyzed in this report.
