Steritech Recognized by EPA for Environmental Stewardship

The Steritech Group was recognized as a 2005 'Champion' by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s Pesticide Environmental Stewardship Program.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Steritech Group, Inc. was recognized as a 2005 “Champion” by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s Pesticide Environmental Stewardship Program for using “integrated pest management (IPM) strategies to reduce the human health and environmental risks associated with pesticide usage.”

This is the second time Steritech has earned this prestigious honor. In 1999, Steritech became the first structural pest management firm to receive the “Excellence Award,” which it was called at that time. Steritech was the only structural pest management firm recognized this year.

“The Steritech Group was selected as a Champion based on its outstanding efforts promoting integrated pest management and environmental stewardship,” says Susanne Cerrelli, Steritech’s PESP Liaison and Regulatory Action Leader of the Microbial Pesticides Branch, Biopesticides Pollution Prevention Division of the EPA. “We applaud Steritech’s continuous efforts to explore and test innovative pest management or prevention strategies, including the use of sanitary and heat procedures as alternative to methyl bromide treatments, and improved insect monitoring programs for reducing exposure to pyrethroid dusts.”

Steritech’s EcoSensitive® pest prevention programs use an environmentally sensitive system that minimizes pesticide usage and prevents future infestations by correcting problems at their source. The company employs a team of entomologists and structural pest management experts who work to develop solutions based on pest biology and structural modification, using targeted pesticides only when necessary.

“Being named a PESP Champion is an honor of which we are particularly proud,” says Steritech Pest Prevention Division President Eric Eicher. “At Steritech, being a good corporate and environmental citizen is ingrained in our culture. We continually strive to evolve our EcoSensitive® Pest Prevention programs to incorporate products and prevention techniques that are at the same time effective and lower the risk to our clients, their customers and the environment.”

The EPA’s Pesticide Environmental Stewardship Program began in 1994 as a voluntary partnership aimed at reducing the risks associated with pesticide usage. There are approximately 150 member organizations of PESP, ranging from electrical cooperatives to agricultural and environmental organizations, pest management firms to food processing companies, and many more.
