FREDERICKSBURG, Va. — Pi Chi Omega, the professional fraternity for the pest management industry, is announcing a special online auction featuring individual volumes from Stoy Hedges’ personal set of the renowned Mallis Handbook of Pest Control.

The auction began Oct. 21 at 8 a.m. and runs through Oct. 31 at 5 p.m., giving enthusiasts, professionals and collectors a limited opportunity to claim a historic piece of the industry’s legacy.

A Rare and Meaningful Opportunity. The auction includes individual volumes from all 10 editions of the Mallis Handbook of Pest Control, first published in 1945 and revered as the definitive “bible” of structural pest management. The collection belonged to the late Stoy Hedges, a respected entomologist, educator, author and honorary member of Pi Chi Omega.

Throughout his career, which included 25 years as senior technical entomologist with Terminix International, Hedges served as an industry mentor and knowledge source. He also held the title of editorial director for the eighth, ninth and 10th editions of the Mallis Handbook. His dedication to scientific pest management helped shape the modern, professionalized field known today.

Honoring a Legacy of Learning. Following Hedges’ death in December 2023, his wife, Kathy Hedges, donated his cherished library so it could continue to inspire others. “Stoy deeply valued these books,” she said, “and I wanted them to find a home with someone who would appreciate them just as much as he did.”

Each volume reflects Hedges’ spirit of curiosity and education, making this not just a book auction, but a celebration of a life devoted to elevating the pest management profession.

A Win-Win for the Profession. Proceeds from the auction will benefit Pi Chi Omega, supporting its mission to connect and enrich the pest management community through education, networking and service.

Bidding closes Oct. 31 at 5 p.m.
