The program was part of the local Cub Scout’s “Outdoor Education” and featured insect collections as well as several live insects, spiders and snakes. The kids learned the difference in the nesting behavior of stinging insects such as bees, wasps and hornets and local venomous spiders like the black widow and brown recluse.
The most popular part of the program was the hands on insect, spider and reptile displays where each child “willing” was able to hold and handle hissing cockroaches, tarantulas and even a black rat snake. SWAT Pest Management performs presentations to local schools, groups and civic organizations and speaks to 500-1,000 children per year free of charge.
