SANTA FE SPRINGS, CA – Target Specialty Products continues to educate individuals about Highway Watch, a national security program designed to train commercial drivers on what to look for, and how to report suspicious or unusual incidents on the road.

A Highway Watch training was held on Aug. 16, 2007, at Target’s home office in Santa Fe Springs, Calif. The next training will be take place in the same facility on October 18, 2007 from 8 a.m. - 10 a.m. Attendees have found the training helpful and educational, according to Target.

“Many of us are on the road so often, we notice immediately when something does not look right,” said training attendee Jim Wanland, certified arborist and owner of Western Pest Control. “This training is informative and gives the tools to take action when something looks suspicious.”

Sue Fries, the Termite Lady and owner of ECOLA Termite Services, attended the training for the same reason. Fries plans to have 65 of her employees trained in the Highway Watch program by Target. “We as an industry must take part in protecting our neighborhoods along with protecting our homes,” said Fries.

By the end of the year, Target hopes to train over 100 commercial drivers in the program.

“Pest control companies have been very responsive to this program,” said Sylvia Kenmuir, Target’s director of training. “We are making sure landscape and vegetation management businesses are aware that this training is applicable to them as well.”

Upon completion of the training, participants receive a unique identification number for reporting incidents immediately to the Highway Watch Command Center, who subsequently report the incident to the appropriate authorities.
