WASHINGTON, D.C. – Polyguard Products announced that its TERM Pest Barriers will be showcased in the Greenbuild KB Home ProjeKt demonstration home at the 2016 Greenbuild International Conference and Expo in Los Angeles, and will be available for in-person discovery tours for conference attendees on Wednesday, Oct. 5 and Thursday, Oct. 6. The home will also be available nationwide via the online virtual tour beginning Oct. 5.
The Greenbuild KB Home ProjeKt, presented by Hanley Wood in partnership with KB Home, BUILDER Magazine, KTGY Architecture + Planning, and the Cradle to Cradle Products Innovation Institute and Virginia Tech, is designed to serve as an unprecedented time-travel look ahead to the years 2020 and 2050 as a way to bring new perspective and strategic scenario-planning opportunities to builders and consumers alike. The display at the 2016 Greenbuild Conference and Expo will boast vignettes that feature assemblies and systems, home tours, interactive educational features and a digital wall display.
The home is designed to be sustainable, resilient, and achieve LEED and National Green Building Standard (NGBS) certifications for energy efficiency today, net-zero energy per California’s 2020 goals, and features super materials and innovations for 2050. Composed of cartridges for modularity and movable walls, the home is flexible and able to adapt and change in real-time and over time to conditions and people’s needs. Wellness, safety and health features can be found throughout the home -- from cooking equipment which prevents nutrient loss during food preparation to lighting optimized for circadian rhythms.
Technology also plays a key role in the home, featuring automation systems to achieve the ultimate smart home with unprecedented levels of convenience, efficiency, awareness and wellness.
Tomorrow’s home can be almost free from insects and pesticides. Today’s homes have countless tiny insect entry points. Some are built in, but most are created by the forces of nature – wind, heat/cold, settlement, wet/dry, and expansive soils. Nature constantly shifts the home and its components around, and that movement creates new and enlarged insect entry points.
TERM Sustainable Barriers by Polyguard incorporate non-chemical insect barriers around the building envelope, creating a new and higher level of sustainability. With almost all insects excluded over the life of the home, residents dwell more peacefully, and the need for pesticides is greatly reduced.
Polyguard CEO John Muncaster says; “We have been working with Texas A&M entomology scientists on sustainable insect barriers since November 1999. Homes can now be designed to eliminate almost all of those tiny insect entry points.”
