Terminix, Topeka Negotiating to Keep Incentive in Place

Steps are being taken to enable Terminix, which bought Topeka-based Schendel Pest Control, to receive cash incentives the Joint Economic Development Organization had offered Schendel totaling as much as $108,000, the Topeka Capital-Journal reported. 

According to the article, Doug Kinsinger, president and chief executive officer of Go Topeka and the Greater Topeka Chamber of Commerce, said this past week that he understands Terminix plans to follow requirements outlined in the incentive agreement by keeping Schendel headquarters here and continuing to retain and grow its Topeka employment base.

Kinsinger said Friday: “We have provided a draft agreement to Terminix for their review which would transfer the performance requirements and incentive provisions. We are encouraged about the prospect of resources potentially available which could be available to help grow Schendel’s multi-state headquarters’ in Topeka as it own stand-alone boutique service company.”

As Schendel Pest Services considered moving its corporate offices out of Topeka in July 2010, board members of JEDO — a body of city and county elected officials — voted to offer it as much as $108,000 in revenue from a countywide, half-cent sales tax as an incentive to stay.
