PLANO, Tex. - Lawmakers in Texas are considering a bill that would give the state government to kill mosquitos in the wake of last summer's deadly West Nile virus outbreak, according to CBS DFW.
Texas State Senate Bill 186 would allow authorities to legally trespass on private property assumed to be abandoned or uninhabited in order to treat stagnant water, a prime breeding ground for mosquitos, the news outlet reported.
Plano resident David Johnson told the station that it took months before city officials were able to treat a stagnant pool in his neighbor's yard, as the owner of the property was unable to be found.
