CLIFTON, Texas - Carrie Soto, owner/president of Soto’s Pest Control Services in Clifton, Texas, is the winner of PCT’s July book giveaway. Soto will add “The Millionaire Next Door: The Surprising Secrets of America’s Wealthy” by Thomas J. Stanley and William D. Danko to her book collection.

Soto entered the book giveaway on PCT Online last month.

Soto decided to jump in the pest control industry when her husband was injured. She has been dedicated to the business since then.

“We decided that since we started our own business, we decided that he would just teach me and advise me what I should do and how to go about doing things and I was always interested in what he was doing,” Soto said. “It just kind of fell in place that way.”

While Soto takes on her routes, which are mostly commercial, some residential, she never lets go of the fact that her responsibilities are numerous. She seems to juggle everything in the right balance.

“It’s just my responsibility to make sure that our jobs get done and we do it efficiently and we have a quality control to make sure everyone gets treated fairly,” Soto said. “I look for new bids that come open and I am out in the field and do termite work and sometimes the pest work.”

One of her most memorable pest encounters — although not the most pleasant — involved a call she received to take care of a rat. Soto explained that getting the rat and taking care of the problem was a bit trickier than she had planned.

“There was one time we were looking for a rat and we had to climb up a ladder that went straight up and you had to walk on ledges where these rows of pipes were and the rat made it’s home there while we were balancing ourselves on these ledges,” she said. “We eventually did get the rat.”

Though Soto deals with these rat problems, among many others, she still loves what she does. It’s a profession she said fits well in with who she is as a person.

“I like the daily challenge,” she said. “Every singe job is differently. You have to approach it differently. I like to solve problems, so it fits in with me.”
