WOODBURY - Health officials are warning anyone who gets bit by a tick to be aware that you may end up with a new disease.
The new illness is a lot like Lyme disease with recurring fevers.
According to Newsday, many people who think they have Lyme disease actually have Borrelia miyamotoi.
Doctors say both diseases are treated with antibiotics.
However, unlike Lyme disease, the new illness requires long term medication, possibly for life.
