Vazquez was granted permission to continue his studies while serving in the Army by the University of Florida.
Vazquez was cited for meritorious achievement while serving as a medical entomologist in support of Operation Bright Star in 2005. His commander said the following about Vazquez: “Ist Lt. Vazquez’s performance was enhanced by a solid foundation in training and understanding of his specialty, a positive attitude and dedication to Army values, his commitment to mission accomplishment and enhanced medical readiness. His performance and professionalism reflects great credit upon himself, the 1469th Medical Department and the United States Army Reserve.” Vazquez also received his second Pi Chi Omega scholarship award in 2006.
