Besides drawing on UF’s resources, facilities, and the expertise of several entomology faculty members, the fumigation school also provides instruction and the expertise of representatives from Florida’s structural fumigation industry, Dow AgroSciences, and the Florida Department of Agriculture’s Bureau of Entomology and Pest Control, among others.
The course covers all aspects of structural fumigation such as measuring and graphing buildings, physical properties of fumigants, calculating dosages, tarping techniques, SCBAs, and transportation laws and regulations. Students will learn about the latest in fumigation equipment and technology. Laboratory sessions will give students a close-up look at termites and powderpost beetles, and the opportunity to get their hands dirty as they learn about different types of soil. New this year will be a section on fumigation for the dreaded bed bug.
Besides providing a great learning environment, students will meet fellow fumigation professionals from across Florida, the United States, the Caribbean, and other countries. Each student receives their own copy of the “Florida Fumigation” manual, a comprehensive book on structural fumigation.
The class is limited to 48 students, so UF suggests registering as soon as possible. To register and for more information, go to the UF Fumigation School web site: http://conference.ifas.ufl.edu/fumigation or contact Dr. Brian Cabrera at: (954) 577-6363.
