Tournament rules stipulated the winner donate the pot to a favorite charity. Synold, a self-proclaimed poker novice, chose the Mayo Foundation for Breast Cancer Research in Scottsdale, Arizona.
“It is an extreme pleasure to direct the funds to the Mayo Foundation,” explained Synold. “The Mayo Clinic’s Scottsdale facility treated Judy Westhoff, one of our Tempe team members, in January. The competent and compassionate care she received was remarkable. The real pay-off is being able to direct the proceeds to the foundation.”
The Mayo Foundation conducts basic science as well as clinical research.
