PCT caught up with Mark Vanderwerp, manager of education and training, Rose Pest Solutions, Troy, Mich. Vanderwerp wrote the November Tech Talk column in which discussed stinging insects, an area of special interest to him.Tech Talk is a column that appears in PCT magazine and is written by members of Copesan’s Techncial Commite. Copesan is an alliance of pest management companies with locations throughout North America.
Vanderwerp’s article was titled "Insects on Madison Avenue" and he noted that that brightly colored animals “advertise” to predators that they are noxious or dangerous in some way. He then discussed the acute hazard that insect venom (and pyrethroids) pose.
