VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. -- A 30-year-old man from Virginia Beach, Va., has died after being stung by fire ants last week.
Bradley Windsor Johnson died Thursday, shortly after he called 911 to report that he had been stung while working at a home, officials said.
A state inspector later found fire ants where Johnson had been.
Bruce Nedelka with Virginia Beach's emergency medical services said Johnson called dispatchers Thursday and said he had been stung by fire ants and was highly allergic.
Nedelka said firefighters arrived first and administered epinephrine, which is used in cases of critical allergic reactions. Paramedics continued efforts to save him, but Nedelka said Johnson died shortly after arriving at a local hospital.
