VPMA Certifies WDI Inspectors

The Virginia Pest Management Association announces the addition of 23 new VPMA Certified WDI Inspectors to a growing group of nearly 500 pest management professionals that carry this exclusive designation in Virginia.

FREDERICKSBURG, Va. — The Virginia Pest Management Association announces the addition of 23 new VPMA Certified WDI Inspectors to a growing group of nearly 500 pest management professionals that carry this exclusive designation in Virginia.

These Certified WDI Inspectors have successfully completed a course of self study, plus a full day of instruction, followed by the passing of a written exam. Technicians from the following 11 Virginia companies joined the elite group of VPMA Certified WDI Inspectors in December: A-1 Inc. Exterminators in Chesapeake, Aachren Termite and Pest Control in Virginia Beach, A-Active Termite & Pest Control in Virginia Beach, Atlantic Exterminating Co, Inc. in Newport News, Coastal Pest Control in Suffolk, Forrest Exterminating in Chesapeake, Four Seasons pest Control in Danville, Getem Termite and Pest Control in Norfolk, Greenstar Pest Control, LLC in Fairfax, Mares Exterminating in Poquoson and Reliance Pest & Termite Control in Chesapeake

Realizing that consumers have many choices when selecting a professional pest management company, the Virginia Pest Management Association (a statewide trade association) created this hands-on training program as a way for pest management companies to educate their technicians in a way that sets them apart as experts in wood-destroying insect inspection. Because the state of Virginia does not regulate WDI inspections, this certification is a way for pest management professionals to prepare to be the “problem solver” for their customers in wood-destroying insect matters.

The VPMA WDI Inspector Certification program manual and class provides technicians with in-depth instruction on each type of wood destroying insect biology, habits and damage. It also covers building types and conditions conducive to wood destroying organisms.  In addition, training is provided in the inspection process including tools and protocols, and accurately completing the NPMA-33 form. Once the training has been completed, the individual must take and pass a written exam.  Once certified, the inspector has to take additional training every two years to keep an active certification.
