Waspss are swarming all over Britain this summer – and warm weather and the recession have been blamed.
Calls to pest control firms have soared by more than 230 percent after the hot start to last month caused wasp populations to swell. Experts warn the problem is likely to get worse as the warm weather is predicted to continue this month.
Wasps typically nest in lofts and wall cavities and gather fruit as it ripens. Household nests left untreated last year because of the recession could add to the problem.
Peter Crowden, chairman of the National Pest Technicians Association, said his firm in Rutland had been dealing with up to five nests a day, including 14 at one manor house.
Pest control giant Rentokil said inquiries increased by 231 per cent five weeks from the middle of June.
