A recently-discovered wolf spider species has been named after a spider from the bestselling Harry Potter franchise, Aragog.
CNN reports that University of Tehran researchers found the species while searching for butterflies in Iran. After realizing it was an unknown species, they drew parallels with the features of this spider and with Aragog from the series. The spider was named Lycosa aragogi after it was determined the spider was from the Lycosa family.
Apart from the visual similarities, the two spiders share behavioral habits as well - which isn't surprising, given Aragog was modeled from a wolf spider. Both are aggressive hunters, and both are maternally protective.
