ANAHEIM, Calif. — Western Exterminator’s iconic Mr. Little has long-been recognized by Southern California consumers to represent the final word in pest management services for their home or business.
But now Mr. Little has taken on a different role – that of the slayer of a mega spider threatening to destroy Los Angeles. No, it’s not a new service offering but the leading role in the comedy/sci-fi thriller Big Ass Spider that debuts at midnight tonight in theaters and video-on-demand.
Western Exterminator executives were approached in August 2011 by Epic Picture producers to have not just a cameo role in the film, but the starring lead role in exchange for use of the company’s uniform and service trucks sporting the iconic Mr. Little, Western’s trademark Little Man with the Hammer.
The plot centers around a giant alien spider that escapes from a military lab and unleashes a rampage on the city of Los Angeles. The plot thickens when a massive military strike fails and it falls to a team of scientists and one clever Western Exterminator technician to kill the creature before the entire city is destroyed.
The movie stars veteran character actor and 15-year Western Exterminator customer, Greg Grunberg, as a wise-cracking and fast-thinking Western Exterminator service technician named Alex Mathis who must protect Los Angeles from this killer arachnid that no one can stop.
Big Ass Spider has been shown at the SXSW (South by Southwest) Film Festival, where it earned Official Selection status; Imagine Film Festival in the Netherlands, the U.K.’s Dead by Dawn Film Festival and the Toronto After Dark Film Festival, and has received positive reviews from critics.
Western Exterminator will sponsor a screening of Big Ass Spider on Thursday, October 24, 2013, at 10 p.m. during the NPMA 2013 PestWorld.
