As of Sept. 6, 2022, a total of 198 cases of West Nile virus disease in people have been reported to CDC.
Of these, 135 (68%) were classified as neuroinvasive disease (such as meningitis or encephalitis) and 63 (32%) were classified as non-neuroinvasive disease.
CDC also released its latest map showing West Nile virus cases by state. This data shows eleven people in the U.S. had died from West Nile virus, as of Sept 6. The state-by-state death totals break down as follows:
- Two in Texas
- Two in Arizona
- Three in Louisiana
- Three in California
- One in Colorado
